Confirm the normal power path
Check the household breaker and any accessible switch that normally controls the dishwasher. If the breaker trips again, leave it off. Repeated resets can hide an electrical fault and do not repair it.
Separate a dark panel from a lit panel that will not begin a cycle. A completely dark display sends attention to the normal power path. A responsive display points first toward the door, selected program, lock, delay, or a message. Record which condition you actually have before changing controls.
Some installations have a wall switch or an accessible plug under the sink. Check only the parts normally used by the homeowner. Do not remove a junction-box cover, reach behind a wet cabinet, or test voltage. If another appliance on the circuit also lost power, keep that fact with your notes.
Look for a door obstruction
Slide both racks fully home and make sure a utensil or tall pan is not holding the door open. Check that the cabinet face is not pressing against the door. Do not push harder, bend the latch, or hold the safety switch closed by hand.
Watch how the door meets the tub. A rack wheel out of position, a pan handle, or a panel rubbing the cabinet can keep the latch from reaching its normal position. A door that needs unusual force is not a successful test. Photograph the alignment and stop rather than turning a simple obstruction into a latch or cabinet repair.
Read the panel before resetting it
Record every light or message. Use the owner guide for the exact model to identify control lock, delayed start, cycle selection, and the normal cancel or reset sequence. A copied code is more useful than a guess about the board.
Follow the sequence in order. Confirm a program is selected, check for a lock symbol, and look for a delay time. If the guide provides a normal cancel or reset procedure, use it once and write down what changes. Button names and hold times differ between panels, so instructions for a different Bosch model are not a safe substitute.
Check the water side without opening the machine
A dishwasher may accept the start command and then wait or stop because it cannot fill. Confirm only that the normal sink-side shutoff is open and that the supply line is not visibly pinched. Do not disconnect the line or pull the dishwasher. Note whether you hear the drain sequence, a fill attempt, or complete silence after pressing Start.
That timing matters. No response from a dark panel, a click with no cycle, and a brief drain followed by a stop are different events. They can lead to checks of power, latching, supply, sensing, or control, but none identifies a failed part by itself.
Prepare the useful handoff
Save the full model number, selected cycle, display text, lock or delay status, and the last program that completed normally. Mention any recent cabinet work, rack problem, leak, or breaker trip. Do not repeatedly force the door or reset power to make the fault happen again.
Stop for heat, water, or a breaker trip
Leave the dishwasher off if water is near the cord or outlet, the panel smells hot, or the breaker will not remain set. Do not open the control console or test live voltage from an article.
A door switch, fuse, wiring fault, or control problem requires access and measurement. Those checks belong after the owner-level observations, with the appliance safely isolated. This guide stops before that boundary.

What a circulation pump, a control board, or a touch panel costs on one of these, set against what the dishwasher sold for new, turns the repair into a bad buy for you more often than not. We would rather tell you that here than charge you $99 to say it in your kitchen.
