The Maytag MVW7232 is a top-load washer with model-specific options such as Extra Power and Deep Fill. When it will not spin or seems to stop while sensing, the first useful task is to describe the sequence. A load that stays wet, a lid that will not lock, and a washer that never begins are related only at the headline level.
Use the current owner manual for the exact control labels, option behavior, display messages, and safe lid instructions. A similar Maytag washer may respond differently. Do not use a generic error-code chart or a remembered button sequence as a repair decision.
Record the sensing and fill sequence
Write down the selected cycle and options before changing them. Note whether the washer fills, pauses, senses, agitates, drains, or starts a spin. Record whether the lid locks and when the display changes. A pause during sensing can be normal for the selected cycle, or it can be the point where the washer detects a condition that needs testing.
Do not raise the water level or restart the cycle repeatedly to make the machine respond. If you select a normal option described in the manual, preserve the original setting and note what happened. The first sequence is usually more useful than a series of resets.
If the lid is locked, do not pull it open. Keep children and pets away from the machine and wait for the normal safe state described by the manual. Standing water, a closed lid, and a stopped basket are reasons to keep hands out of the washer.
The appliance brands page helps place the MVW7232 in the Maytag model family. It cannot tell whether a symptom comes from sensing, balance, drain, lock, controls, or the drive system.
Check the load without forcing a spin
When the lid is safely unlocked, record the load type and whether it was unusually heavy, small, bulky, or tangled. A towel load and a mixed load can behave differently. Note whether the same symptom appears with a normal load, but do not run repeated tests that leave water or put the washer out of balance.
Do not reach into a basket that is moving or trying to start. Do not add items while the machine is in a sensing or spin sequence. A balance response can reduce or delay spin, but that does not prove that the suspension, motor, control, or basket is defective.
Look at the machine from outside for a change in vibration, walking, or noise. Do not move the washer or adjust leveling parts while troubleshooting. A photo of the setup and the load description gives the technician useful context without creating another variable.
The appliance service hub explains the service path.
Describe the spin and drain result
Separate “the washer never spins” from “it spins briefly and stops” and “it completes but leaves clothes wet.” Record whether water remains in the tub, whether the drain sounds normal, and whether the display says the cycle is complete. A wet load can follow a balance response or drain condition as well as a component fault.
Listen from outside for humming, clicking, grinding, repeated starts, or a change in the normal motor sound. Avoid naming a failed motor or pump. The same sound can be affected by load position, water level, the lid state, a control decision, or a mechanical obstruction.
If there is water on the floor, stop the cycle using the normal control if safe and keep water away from electrical equipment. Do not disconnect a hose, reach under the washer, or remove a panel while the area is wet. Photograph the water and note when it appeared.
Keep the lid-lock boundary intact
Record whether the lid closes, locks, stays locked, or shows an open-lid message. Look at the visible lid area for an item preventing closure. Do not use a magnet, tool, wire, or manual force to bypass the lock. The lock is part of the washer’s safety sequence.
If the lid locks but the washer does not continue, record what happens next. A lid signal can overlap with controls, drive, water, and balance checks. It cannot identify a lock assembly or board without testing.
Stop immediately for smoke, burning odor, exposed wiring, a hot electrical smell, or a breaker that trips again. Leave the machine off and keep clear. Urgency does not make a lid-lock or electrical bypass safe.
Use Extra Power and Deep Fill carefully
The MVW7232 product family includes Extra Power and Deep Fill options, but check the current owner manual for the installed suffix to confirm the exact labels and availability. Record whether an option was selected when the symptom appeared. Do not assume an option caused the problem simply because the cycle changed.
If the display shows an unfamiliar message, photograph it and write down the selected cycle. Do not borrow instructions from a different Maytag series. The manual can explain normal option behavior; a technician still needs to test the washer when the cycle stops, spin is absent, or the lid state is inconsistent.
Diagnosis comes before the estimate
There is no repair price by phone; diagnose first, then quote. A written estimate is provided after diagnosis and before repair work. The stated appliance terms are 3 months standard, 1 year on inverter boards, sealed system 1 year for partial repair or 2 years for a full rebuild. The estimate should identify the work category and should not apply a term to a part without checking the scope.
Use the FAQ for general process questions. The contact page is the right place to provide the model suffix, cycle, options, load, lid state, drain result, sounds, display photo, and safety notes. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
