Pleasanton Dryer Runs but Does Not Heat: What to Check Before Service

A Pleasanton dryer can tumble while the heat circuit, airflow path, sensor, or power supply has a problem. Record safe clues before service.

By 8 min read

A dryer that tumbles but does not heat can still have more than one possible cause. The selected cycle, power supply, heat circuit, airflow path, moisture sensing, limit device, wiring, or control can affect the result. A long cycle is not the same symptom as no heat, and a warm drum at the end does not prove that the heating system is healthy.

Start with a safe record. Note the Pleasanton dryer’s model, cycle, load, drum motion, moisture result, and any smell or sound. The appliance services page explains why diagnosis comes before a repair scope.

Stop for heat or electrical danger

Stop using the dryer if you smell burning, see smoke or scorching, hear arcing, feel unusual heat at the cabinet, or notice damaged wiring. If the normal controls respond, stop the cycle. Keep clear of the cord and outlet if the area is wet or damaged. Do not touch a hot or damaged plug.

Do not remove the rear or front panel, bypass a thermal device, bridge a fuse, or test live voltage. A dryer contains high-temperature and electrical systems that can remain dangerous after the cycle stops. Do not treat a safety cutoff as a part to defeat.

If clothing is unusually hot, the drum stops, or a load has a scorched smell, remove it only when safe and let it cool in a clear area. Do not restart the dryer to see whether the smell repeats.

Confirm the basic cycle behavior

Record whether the drum tumbles continuously, starts and stops, or does not move. Note the cycle setting, temperature option, moisture setting, and whether the machine shows a status message. Some cycles use different heat behavior, so a result on one setting should not be generalized to every program.

Describe the laundry result. Is the load completely cold, slightly warm, damp after a long cycle, or hot with poor drying? Record whether the symptom affects every load or only small, bulky, or mixed-fabric loads. Do not add a precise drying time that the model manual does not state.

If a normal owner check includes a lint screen, clean it as directed and reinstall it. Do not use a sharp tool or liquid where the manual does not permit it. A clean screen may improve the result, but it does not prove that the heating circuit is working.

Observe airflow without dismantling

From a safe position, record whether the external exhaust outlet shows a change in airflow while the dryer operates normally. Do not reach into the opening, insert an object, disconnect the duct, or move a built-in unit. Do not turn the observation into a duct-cleaning promise or a part diagnosis.

Airflow restriction can make a dryer run hot, extend the cycle, or activate a protective limit. Weak airflow can also reflect an installation or internal condition. A normal-looking outlet does not prove that all internal paths are clear.

Write down whether the symptom began after a move, installation change, lint-screen change, or other service. Keep the machine’s access and connection details for the technician rather than trying to inspect behind it.

Separate heat, sensor, and power clues

If the drum tumbles but the load stays cold, record whether the breaker has changed state or whether the dryer is connected through a power arrangement that recently changed. Do not repeatedly reset a breaker that trips. A repeated trip is a reason to stop and arrange qualified help.

If the load is warm but damp, record moisture-sensor behavior, cycle selection, load size, and airflow. A sensor or control may be responding to a condition, but the symptom does not prove that the sensor is defective. Do not replace a fuse, element, thermostat, or board from an online match.

If the dryer is gas-heated and there is a gas smell, stop using it and follow gas-safety instructions. Do not test ignition with a flame or open the burner compartment. The fuel configuration belongs in the model record.

Describe the heat result precisely

“No heat” can mean a completely cold drum, a brief warm period followed by cold air, a load that is warm but damp, or a cycle that ends before the heat stage. Write down which one occurred. Note whether the result changes with a different normal cycle, but do not run repeated loads if the dryer smells hot or trips power.

Record the outside airflow observation at the same time as the heat result. If airflow is weak, do not assume the internal cause is a blockage. If airflow looks normal, do not assume the heating circuit is healthy. Both are clues that belong in a technician’s test plan.

Keep the lint screen, controls, and installation in their normal configuration. Do not leave the door open, place a fan at the cabinet, or alter the outlet to create a test condition.

Prepare the Pleasanton diagnosis

Keep the model and serial information, cycle, load, drum behavior, heat result, moisture result, airflow observation, breaker history, smells, sounds, installation changes, and prior repair records together. State whether the dryer completes the cycle, stops early, or runs continuously.

The technician may need to evaluate power, heat production, airflow, temperature protection, sensors, wiring, and controls. A written estimate should come after diagnosis and before repair work. The estimate should identify the supported condition and proposed scope.

Use the FAQ hub for process questions and the contact page to send the record. The published service boundary is the 56-city service area, excluding Marin County.

The $99 diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair. A Pleasanton dryer that runs without heat needs a measured handoff, not a guessed heater. Keep heat and power safety first, record the cycle and airflow clues, and let testing determine the repair path.

FAQ

Common questions.

Why does my Pleasanton dryer run but leave clothes damp?
The symptom can involve the selected cycle, power supply, heat circuit, airflow, moisture sensing, thermostat or limit, wiring, or controls. Testing is needed before naming a component.
Can I test a dryer heater with the panel removed?
No. Do not open electrical panels, bypass a thermal limit, or test live voltage as a homeowner check.
What should I record before dryer service?
Provide the model, cycle, load, drum motion, heat result, cycle time behavior, airflow observation from a safe position, smells, breaker history, and any recent move or service.
