Kenmore Elite fridge that stopped cooling in Danville
The call A Danville family woke up to a warm fridge and a thawing freezer. The compressor was clicking on, running a few seconds, then shutting back off. Food was starting to turn.
What we found We put gauges on it and tested the electricals first, because a bad start relay or capacitor is cheaper and far more common than a dead compressor. Both were fine. The compressor itself had failed. A lot of Kenmore Elite fridges run an LG-built sealed system, and the compressor is the one part on them that ends the conversation.
The fix This is where we had the repair-or-replace talk on the $75 diagnostic. Compressor and sealed-system labor runs real money, so it only pays on a fridge that’s otherwise solid and not too old. Theirs was. We replaced the compressor, pulled a vacuum on the sealed system, pressure-tested for leaks, and recharged to spec. That’s EPA sealed-system work, and we’re certified for it.
How it turned out Cooled down within a few hours and held steady in both compartments. Quiet again. If this fridge had been ten-plus years old we’d have said buy new. For this one, the repair was the right call, and we gave them the number before we touched it.
