GE Monogram built-in fridge not cooling, San Ramon
This Monogram built-in had quit cooling. Fresh-food and freezer were both warming up, the compressor ran constantly without getting there, and it was noisy with ice building up where it shouldn’t.
Those symptoms together point at the sealed system, the closed refrigerant loop that most shops won’t touch. We confirmed a slow refrigerant leak and a weak compressor. On a fridge this age and cost, that’s a real repair-or-replace decision. For a built-in Monogram the rebuild wins, because a like-for-like replacement runs into the thousands and needs cabinetry work.
So we rebuilt the loop. New compressor, new evaporator, fresh filter-drier, every joint brazed and sealed, then a full vacuum and a recharge to GE’s factory spec. Parts on this one included the compressor, evaporator coil, filter-drier, heat exchanger, defrost thermostat and sensor, and the icing kit.
It cools evenly again, holds temperature in both compartments, and runs quiet. Parts and labor carry a one-year warranty, subject to your contract terms.
Sealed-system work is the deep end, and it’s a bigger part of what our sister site adrium does on built-in refrigeration. For everyday GE fridge problems, see our GE appliance repair guide. This was a San Ramon call out of our home shop. Schedule a visit and tell us what it’s doing.
