The fridge melts a little frost on each defrost cycle and routes that water down a small drain line to a pan underneath, where it evaporates. When the drain clogs, usually with ice or food debris, the water has nowhere to go, so it backs up and leaks out, either onto your floor or as ice and water in the bottom of the compartment.
