Half Moon Bay is the anchor for the whole Coastside, and I run the same trip out to Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada rather than treat Half Moon Bay as its own stop. The homes near Main Street and the harbor restaurants, along with the newer builds inland and up toward Miramar, carry a mix of Sub-Zero Classic built-ins and BI columns. Coastal homes here do not turn over kitchens as often as the flatland suburbs, so a lot of these units are fifteen to twenty-five years old.

Salt air is the real difference on this route. A condenser coil out here corrodes faster than the same coil forty minutes inland, and a fan-motor bearing exposed to salt air seizes sooner. Before I call a compressor bad, I check the coil fins and the fan for corrosion, because a corroded coil chokes airflow and makes a healthy compressor work like a dying one. Door gaskets also harden faster in the salt air and lose their seal earlier than an inland unit of the same age.

Condenser coil corrosion and fan-motor service. Salt air corrodes the coil fins and dries out the fan-motor bearing faster than inland units. We clean or replace the coil and swap the motor.
Sealed-system leak on coastal built-ins. Compressor or evaporator leak on an aging column. Recovery, leak find, weigh-in, and a 24-hour vacuum before recharge.
Door gasket replacement, salt-air wear. Gaskets harden and lose their seal earlier out here. We replace the gasket and reset the hinge if the panel has sagged.
