Amana in Blackhawk

Amana in Blackhawk kitchens.

Blackhawk homes went up mostly in the 1980s and 90s, and while the main kitchens have been remodeled once or twice since, the secondary appliances often have not. The Amana fridge in the pool house, the washer and dryer pair in a casita, the dishwasher in a rented condo near Blackhawk Plaza. Those machines are our bread and butter here.

Amana is the plain-trim line of the Whirlpool family, same compressors and pumps and boards as the dearer badges, so repairs are inexpensive and parts are on my van. We are based in San Ramon, so Blackhawk is one of the shortest drives on our map, straight up Camino Tassajara.

The visit is a $75 diagnostic credited to the repair, written quote before work, 7 days a week. We are EPA Section 608 Universal certified (EPA #1279674151528) and hold CSLB #1136642. Gate access is routine for us, just leave our name at the country club gate or send a guest code.

Every fridge with a dispenser or ice maker has a water inlet valve. The fittings can leak under the cabinet, or the solenoid fails and the dispenser and ice maker stop getting water.

Side-by-side fridge not making ice. Amana ASI2575 side-by-sides share the Whirlpool modular icemaker, and after 8 to 10 years the icemaker head or the water inlet valve gives up. I test valve coil resistance and fill volume first, because half the time the fix is the valve, not the icemaker, and the valve is the cheaper part.
Washer leaking during spin. On the NTW top-loaders a worn tub seal or a split drain hose shows up as water under the machine only during spin. In an upstairs Blackhawk laundry that is a ceiling stain waiting to happen. I pressure-check the fill side, inspect the pump and seal, and quote the exact fix in writing.
Electric range element not heating evenly. Amana AER6303 ranges use standard Whirlpool bake elements, and a blistered or pitted element bakes one side of everything. The element is a bolt-in part I stock. If the element tests fine I check the oven sensor and the relay board before condemning anything expensive.
