Amana is the value badge in the Whirlpool family. Same compressors, same drive motors, same control boards as the pricier Whirlpool and Maytag models, just plainer trim and fewer buttons. For you that means reasonably priced parts, and the common ones are usually on the truck.

The calls we get on Amana

ART and ASI top-freezers almost always come in on a bad door gasket. Leave the door open on a warm day and the gasket takes a set, then never seals right again. You get sweat around the door frame and a compressor that runs and runs. New gasket, twenty minutes, done.

The other fridge call is the defrost system: heater, thermostat, or timer. We meter all three in order before condemning anything, because the heater is a two-minute bench check and there’s no reason to guess.

AGR gas ranges quit at the surface igniter. It clicks, the burner won’t light, and folks buy a gas valve it didn’t need. Nine times in ten it’s the igniter, and we carry it. AER electric ranges are the flip side: a cold-running oven is the sensor, a no-heat oven is the bake element. Both stocked.

Over-the-range microwaves lose the magnetron around year seven in a busy kitchen. Dishwashers act up at the inlet valve or the door latch, and we test both before choosing a part. Top-load washers ride the same platform as Whirlpool and Maytag, so they break the same way and take the same parts.

What each fix runs

Gaskets and igniters are commonly stocked parts. Repair price and timing are provided after diagnosis. Defrost repairs land in the same range once we know which of the three parts failed.

Repair or replace

Microwaves are the one place we’ll point you elsewhere these days. Over-the-range units are built to a price, and once the magnetron goes (parts alone run around $180) it’s usually faster and cheaper to put in a new $280 unit than repair the old one, so we’ll tell you that upfront instead of opening it up.

Everything else on an Amana is usually worth fixing, because the parts are inexpensive and the platform is proven, as long as the machine itself was worth real money new. A fridge under about $1,000 new can be a tough repair case, and on ranges we are set up for the professional-style, $1,500-and-up end of the lineup rather than a basic freestanding unit. We will flag either issue after diagnosis and before work starts.
