San Carlos splits in two for me. West of El Camino the ranch homes on the hill streets got their kitchens redone years back, and that is Sub-Zero and Wolf territory now. Down toward Old County Road and the industrial flats near the rail line, the apartment buildings and older duplexes still run what the builder put in, and that is where I find Amana. ART top-freezers and AGR gas ranges are the standard units in that rental stock, with a scatter of them in the smaller houses just off Laurel Street too.
Those units run hard because turnover is high near the industrial side. Tenants come and go and nobody calls about a gasket or a filter between leases. The door gasket on an ART top-freezer is usually the first thing to fail, and once it stops sealing the compressor runs around the clock. On the AGR range the surface igniter clicks without lighting a burner, and people assume the whole range is dying when it is one inexpensive part.

- Defrost circuit diagnosis. Heater, thermostat, or timer. I meter the three in sequence so you are not paying to guess.
