Slow or hollow ice cubes from the refrigerator. On well-fed Portola Valley properties, sediment in the supply line is a common cause of thin, hollow ice cubes, restricting the inlet valve's fill within its timed window. I measure fill volume at the ice maker and check the inlet screen before I tell you whether you need a valve, an ice maker, or a line flush.
Top-load washer lid lock flashing. Whirlpool's lid lock assembly wears out over time. When it goes, the washer won't start and you'll see the lid lock light flashing. It's a single-part fix and one of the more affordable repairs we do, and it's common enough on daily-use laundry rooms out here that I always check it first when a top-loader won't start.
Electric dryer running with no heat. The heating element and its high-limit thermostat on a Whirlpool electric dryer tend to fail as a pair. I test both, and I also check the vent run, since a long duct out of a detached laundry or garage setup on these wooded lots overheats the element repeatedly if it's not clear. Fixing the part alone without checking airflow just books a repeat visit.
