KitchenAid in Alameda

KitchenAid in Alameda kitchens.

Alameda kitchens keep me on my toes. A lot of the island's housing stock is pre-war, Victorians and Craftsman bungalows that were remodeled in waves, and KitchenAid shows up in many of those remodels because it fit the budget better than the luxury brands. The appliances are solid. The 60 amp subpanels and tired outlets behind them are often the real story, so I check supply voltage before I blame a control board.

Under the KitchenAid badge you are looking at Whirlpool group engineering. The KDTM dishwashers, the KODE wall ovens, the KRMF French door refrigerators all share pumps, boards, and sensors with Whirlpool and Maytag. That is good news for an Alameda homeowner, because parts ship fast and I usually carry the common ones on the van.

We are Bay Area Appliance Repair Service, based in San Ramon, CSLB #1136642, EPA Section 608 Universal certified. The diagnostic visit is $75 and it is credited to the repair, with a written quote before any work starts. We cover the whole island, from the Gold Coast to Bay Farm, seven days a week.

What the work looks like

A built-in sealed-system leak repair.

Nitrogen pressure and a soap-bubble test on a built-in fridge line set. We map every leak source before we braze.
The corroded copper up close. After fifteen-plus years this is why a real fix rebuilds the sealed run, so you do not pay the labor twice.

Brazing a new line onto the compressor during the same kind of sealed-system repair. Recover, braze, evacuate, and recharge: the real fix, done as one complete job.

What the work looks like

A dishwasher leaking from the pump and sump.

The base of a Whirlpool-family dishwasher, where the circulation pump, sump, and diverter live. A worn pump seal, a cracked sump, or the diverter lets water past and onto the floor.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • KDTM dishwasher leaking from the diverter shaft. The KDTM354 and its siblings develop a slow leak at the diverter motor shaft seal under the sump. In Alameda's older homes that drip often sits on original fir subfloor, so people call the moment they smell it. I replace the seal and the diverter motor together, check the sump for wear, and run a full cycle on site to confirm it is dry.
  • KODE wall oven dead after self-clean. Run self-clean on a KODE500 double oven and there is a fair chance the thermal fuse or the control board relay lets go from the heat. The oven simply goes dark. I test the fuse first, then the board. Both are Whirlpool platform parts, so a same-week fix is normal, not a special order.
  • KRMF706 refrigerator ice maker quitting. The five-door KRMF706 has a known pattern where the ice maker fill and optics act up and production drops to nothing. Salt air on the island does the door hinges and gaskets no favors either. I check the fill tube, the emitter boards, and the door seal in one visit, since replacing only the ice maker often misses the real cause.

FAQ

KitchenAid in Alameda questions, answered.

  • How fast can you get to Alameda from San Ramon?
We come over 580 and through the tube or across the Bay Farm bridge, about 35 to 40 minutes outside rush hour. Alameda calls get paired with Oakland and San Leandro stops on the same run, so we are on the island several days a week and can usually offer a next-day window.
  • My rental unit has an older KitchenAid dishwasher. Is it worth repairing?
Usually yes. KitchenAid dishwashers share their pump and motor platform with Whirlpool, so parts stay available for years. If the tub and racks are sound, a pump or board repair costs a fraction of replacement plus the installer hassle in an older Alameda kitchen. I give you the written number at diagnosis so you can decide with real figures.
  • What warranty do you give on the repair?
90 days on consumable parts, one year on major parts, and two years on sealed-system refrigeration work. The $75 diagnostic is credited toward the repair when you go ahead with it.
