Albany is 1.8 square miles wedged between Berkeley and El Cerrito, and the compact 1920s to 1940s stucco and wood bungalows on the Marin Avenue grid still run a lot of Maytag MRT and MFI top-freezer fridges bought whenever the small original kitchen was last touched. UC Village, the university family housing along Buchanan Street, is the other big Maytag pocket in town. Those buildings run Bravos washers and Centennial dryers in shared laundry rooms that serve rotating student families, and that's where the heaviest-use Maytag calls come from.

Shared UC Village machines get hammered by turnover, so the Bravos lid switch and the gearbox bearing both come up faster than they would in a single household's laundry room. The Centennial dryers in those buildings vent into long shared runs, so drum-glide drag and belt wear arrive early too. In the ADU and basement units scattered through the rest of Albany, it's the MRT and MFI fridges that call, usually the defrost thermostat or the evap fan. Cheap parts, but a dead one strands someone's groceries in a kitchen with no backup space. Commercial Hoshizaki and Manitowoc ice machines are a separate line of work I don't take on a Maytag call.
