Speed Queen in Alamo
Speed Queen in Alamo kitchens.
Alamo has a lot of single-story ranch homes off Danville Boulevard and Stone Valley Road, and most of the laundry pairs we service there sit in the garage or a small utility room off the kitchen. That garage placement matters for a Speed Queen. Dust from the driveway and yard works into the belt area over the years, and a TC5 that spins slow in Alamo is very often a worn or glazed drive belt, not a bad motor.
Speed Queen owners in Alamo tend to be people who ran a high-efficiency front-loader for six or seven years, got tired of mold and bearing noise, and bought a TC5 or TR7 expecting it to last like the old machines did. I agree with that decision, and it changes the repair math. A washer built for a fifteen to twenty year life is almost always worth fixing at year five or eight.
We come from San Ramon, charge $75 for the diagnostic, credit that $75 toward the repair, and give you a written quote before any part goes in. Consumable parts carry 90 days, major parts carry one year.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- TC5 spins slow and leaves clothes wet. The TC5003WN uses a real belt drive to its transmission, and after years in a dusty Alamo garage the belt glazes and slips under a heavy spin load. Clothes come out wetter than normal and you may smell warm rubber. We replace the belt, check the idler tension, and wipe down the pulleys. It is a same-visit fix when the belt is on the van.
- Slow fill from clogged inlet valve screens. EBMUD water is not terrible, but ten years of fill cycles still packs sediment into the small screens inside the water inlet valve. The washer takes five or ten minutes to fill, or fills warm when you asked for cold. On Speed Queen top-loaders we usually replace the whole mixing valve rather than pick at the screens, because a valve that has been restricted that long tends to leak soon after.
- DR7 dryer runs but makes no heat. On the DR7 electric dryer the usual cause is an open heating element, sometimes with a failed high-limit thermostat that took it out. We check the element for continuity, test both thermostats, and confirm the 240V outlet is delivering on both legs before we replace anything. Element plus limit kit is a routine one-visit repair.

FAQ
Speed Queen in Alamo questions, answered.
-
How fast can you get to Alamo from San Ramon?
About fifteen minutes up I-680, so Alamo is one of our quickest calls. We run Danville, Alamo, and Walnut Creek as one corridor most days, and Lafayette fits the same loop over Highway 24. Same-day or next-day is normal for Alamo. -
Is a ten year old Speed Queen still worth repairing?
Usually yes. These machines are built for fifteen to twenty years, so at year ten a belt, pump, or valve is money well spent. I will tell you plainly at the diagnostic if the failure is one of the rare ones that is not worth it, and the $75 diagnostic is credited to the repair either way. -
Do you carry Speed Queen parts on the van?
We stock the common wear items, belts, drain pumps, inlet valves, and dryer element kits for the current TC, TR, and DR series. Less common parts like control boards come from the distributor, usually two to four business days, and we return with a written quote already approved.
