South San Francisco calls itself The Industrial City, and these days that mostly means the biotech towers east of 101. The Speed Queens we work on are nowhere near there. They're in the family homes up in Winston Manor, Serra Highlands, and the flats off El Camino, houses built mid-century with a laundry nook that has held two or three machines over the decades before this one went in. The TC top-loader is common in these older nooks because it doesn't need the clearance a stacked unit does.

On the FF front-loaders that do turn up here, the drain pump is the recurring call. Coins and wire work loose from kids' pockets and crack the impeller housing, and the machine either won't drain or does it slow with a grinding noise. On the electric dryers, the heating element goes first, and it's a common repair with a part we usually stock in most of these lower-mileage households.
