DCS in Alameda
DCS in Alameda kitchens.
Alameda is an island, and that changes how DCS equipment ages here. The RGS gas ranges inside the East End Victorians and the bungalows off Otis Drive hold up fine, but the built-in DCS grills on decks near South Shore and the Gold Coast take a beating from salt air. I see corroded burner ports and seized brass valves on Alameda grills years before I see them in Concord or Dublin.
We service both sides of the DCS line in Alameda: the indoor RGS-305 and RGS-364 ranges and the outdoor Series 7 and Series 9 built-ins. A lot of these ranges came into the island's older homes during kitchen remodels in the 2000s, so the spark modules and igniter switch harnesses are now at the age where they fail. The diagnostic is $75 and it credits toward the repair, with a written quote before any parts go in.
One island-specific note. Many Alameda homes still run older gas plumbing, and low or inconsistent gas pressure mimics a bad burner. I check manifold pressure before condemning parts, because replacing a valve on a range that is actually starving for gas fixes nothing.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Continuous clicking from the surface igniters. On RGS ranges the burner switches share one harness, so one switch shorting from moisture or a boil-over makes every igniter click nonstop. In Alameda's damp marine air this happens more often than inland. The fix is usually the switch harness or the spark module, and I test which one before ordering.
- Outdoor grill burners rotting out from salt air. DCS grill burners are heavy stainless, but on island decks the ports still rust and the flame goes ragged and yellow. I inspect the burner box, the ceramic radiant rods, and the drip system together, because if salt got to the burners it usually got to the rods too. Burner replacement carries our one year major parts warranty.
- Oven will not light or lights late. The RGS oven ignition depends on a clean electrode gap and a healthy control module. When the oven whooshes on late or fails to light on the first try, I check the electrode, the ground path, and gas pressure in that order. On Alameda's older homes I verify pressure first, since a starved line produces the same symptom as a failed module.

FAQ
DCS in Alameda questions, answered.
-
How fast can you get to Alameda from San Ramon?
We come across on 580 and through the Oakland side, usually 35 to 45 minutes depending on the tube or the bridges. Alameda pairs naturally with our Oakland and San Leandro stops, so if you book a morning slot I am often already on that side of the bay. We run 7 days a week. -
Can you service a DCS built-in grill that is mounted in an outdoor island?
Yes. Most DCS grill heads lift out of the masonry island once the gas is disconnected, and the burners, igniters, and valves service from the top anyway. I bring the tools to pull the head if the valve work requires it, and I will tell you in the written quote if masonry access is a problem. -
My DCS range is over 15 years old. Is it still worth repairing?
Usually yes. These ranges are commercial-style and simple, and Fisher & Paykel still supports most RGS parts. If the repair quote crosses about half the cost of a comparable new unit I will say so plainly and let you decide. The $75 diagnostic applies to the repair either way.
