Castro Valley is mostly 1950s and 60s ranch homes, and when one of them gets a kitchen remodel, an ILVE Majestic sometimes ends up where the old 30 inch slide-in used to be. The catch is that these houses were plumbed for basic appliances, and a 36 or 48 inch Italian range asks more of the gas line and the ventilation than the original builder ever planned for.
Out toward Palomares Road and Crow Canyon there are also properties on propane, and ILVE ranges on LP have their own set of problems. Wrong or worn jets give you a sooty flame and an oven that never quite reaches temperature. I check the conversion first on any rural Castro Valley call because half the time the range was set up for natural gas and never properly converted.

- LP conversion problems on propane properties. On the canyon roads, ILVE ranges running propane with tired or incorrect jets burn dirty and weak. We verify the injectors against the model plate, swap in the correct LP set, and adjust the air shutters until every burner holds a stable blue flame.
- Continuous clicking from the spark module. When an ILVE keeps clicking after the burner lights, it is usually moisture under a burner cap or a cracked electrode shorting the spark circuit. If the caps are dry and the clicking continues, the reignition module itself has failed. We test each electrode to ground before condemning the module.
- Oven door dropping or not sealing. The hinges on the heavier Majestic doors wear at the pivot, so the door sags and heat leaks along the top edge. You feel it as a hot kitchen and long preheat times. We replace hinges in pairs and fit a new gasket at the same time so the seal is even all the way around.

My ILVE is on propane and the flames look orange. Is that dangerous?
Orange, sooty flames on LP mean incomplete combustion, and that deserves a prompt look. Stop using the affected burner and book the diagnostic. Usually it is jets or shutter adjustment, and it is a same-visit fix if the correct injector set is available. -
Is the $75 diagnostic charged if I approve the repair?
No. It is credited toward the repair total. You only pay it as a standalone fee if you decide not to proceed after seeing the written quote.
