- GSS side-by-side icing over every few weeks. The GSS series defrost system is the weak point. When the defrost heater or thermostat fails, frost builds on the evaporator until airflow stops and the fresh food side goes warm. People thaw it with a hair dryer and it works for a month, then repeats. I replace the heater and thermostat as a pair and verify the defrost cycle actually runs before I leave.
- GFW front-load washer won't drain. GE's GFW front loaders throw a drain fault when the pump filter loads up with coins, hair pins, and drawstring tips. Sometimes it's just the filter, sometimes the pump itself has stripped. In Hillsborough these washers often sit in second-floor laundry closets, so I also check the standpipe height and door boot for leaks while I'm in there, because a slow drain and a slow leak often travel together.
- Electric range burner dead or stuck on high. On GE JB electric ranges the infinite switch behind the knob fails more often than the radiant element under the glass. A burner that only works on high is a switch. A burner that's dead cold could be either, so I test resistance at the element first. Both are inexpensive parts, and I usually have common JB elements on the truck.
