- GSS side-by-side icing over every few weeks. The defrost heater or thermostat fails, ice builds up over the evaporator coil, and once airflow chokes off the fresh food side warms up too. On a guest house unit that is not checked daily, this can run a while before anyone catches it. I replace the heater and thermostat together and confirm the defrost cycle actually completes before I leave.
- GFW front-load washer won't drain. The pump filter loads up and throws a drain fault, or the pump itself has failed. These washers often sit in a laundry room built off a second kitchen out here, so I check the standpipe height and door boot for leaks at the same time, since a slow drain and a slow leak tend to show up together.
- Electric range burner dead or stuck on high. The infinite switch behind the knob is the more common failure point on GE JB electric ranges, more so than the element itself. Stuck on high points to the switch. Dead cold could be either, so I test the element's resistance first before deciding. Both parts are inexpensive and I usually carry common JB elements on the truck.
