What breaks. What we fix.
LG is a split story, and we’ll give you both halves straight. The washers and dryers are some of the best you can buy. The kitchen refrigerators are the ones we warn people about. We repair all of it across the Bay Area: washers, dryers, refrigerators, ranges, and dishwashers.
The calls we get on LG
Laundry first, because that’s most of the volume. LG dual-inverter front-loaders throw an LE fault when the rotor-position sensor drifts, a one-visit sensor swap. A UE unbalance fault is just as often a worn suspension rod as an actual unbalanced load, so we run a service cycle and check the rods before quoting parts. The top-loaders use a direct-drive motor bolted to the basket with a clutch shifter, and when that shifter or its sensor wears you get a tub that won’t spin or won’t agitate. People assume the motor’s dead. It usually isn’t. We test the rotor, stator, and shifter at the connector first, because the fix is often the shifter, not a $400 motor. Drain pumps are the other steady laundry call, and you can hear a bad one coming.
Refrigerators are the harder conversation. The linear-compressor era, roughly 2014 to 2019, put out a wave of failures LG eventually settled. If your French-door LG runs but won’t cool and the compressor won’t pump, that’s the one. The compressor may be covered by the program through LG direct; the labor usually isn’t, and we tell you where you stand before we pull a panel. Post-2020 models moved off that compressor and settled down, so newer units (LRMVS series, LSXC22326S) mostly just need an evap-fan motor or an icemaker, both quick. ThinQ Wi-Fi modules fail too, but that’s an add-on, not a trip on its own.
Ranges: the control-knob spark switch tends to go around year five. Swap it, test ignition, done.
What each fix runs
The $75 diagnostic is flat, covers the workup, and is credited to the repair. Most laundry repairs land in the $180 to $400 range with parts. A refrigerator compressor is the big one, and if yours qualifies for the settlement program the number changes, which is exactly why we look up your serial before quoting anything.
Repair or replace
Laundry: repair it. LG washers and dryers earn their keep and the parts are available. The refrigerator is where we get blunt. LG kitchen fridges carry known compressor trouble, newer ones added defrost and fan faults, parts can be slow, the compressor warranty got shorter, and the underlying inverter issue still isn’t solved, so a like-for-like swap can land you right back here. If your LG fridge has failed hard, repairing it can be real money on a unit likely to repeat. The diagnostic tells you whether it’s worth it, and you’ll hear the honest answer before you spend.

LG questions, answered.
-
Does my LG fridge qualify for the linear-compressor settlement?
Depends on the serial number and date of manufacture. We look it up before opening a panel. If your unit qualifies, we say so up front. Compressor part is covered, labor often isn't. -
My LG washer throws an LE motor fault. What is it?
Rotor-position sensor has drifted. Sensor replacement is one visit. Don't let anyone sell you a new motor without testing the sensor first. -
Are post-2020 LG fridges reliable?
More so. LG moved off the linear compressor in most lines. Current models fail at the evap-fan motor and the icemaker assembly. Both are 30-minute fixes. -
My ThinQ app says the fridge is offline but it's running. What's wrong?
Wi-Fi module on the door. Replaceable but rarely worth it as a standalone job. We do it as an add-on with another repair.
